A former teacher, Simon Murray has been visiting schools for over 10 years where he presents his work to pupils during fun packed literacy and illustration workshops.

In the last school year alone, over 18,000 school children from Reception through to Y6 took part in Simon’s workshops across the UK and abroad.

Simon actively promotes the link between illustration and writing through lively fun packed workshops. His visit starts with a 30 minute talk in front of the whole school. This talk involves live-drawing, poetry, and the imaginative origins of his character ‘Icky Doo Dah’. This assembly is followed by energetic workshops with each class where the children create fantastic artwork and storyboards of their own.

As a former teacher, Simon realises how important it is to leave detailed follow up work and resources for teachers to continue with after the initial workshops. As part of the visit Simon leaves a set of books for the school library. Finished work can be sent in to our online art gallery for all to see!
